Often it appears as UNL (University of Nebraska-Lincoln), UNO (University of Nebraska at Omaha), or UNMC (University of Nebraska Medical Center). That diversity contributes to a problem faced by the University of Nebraska, according to NU regent Kermit Hansen of Omaha'. With the backing of the regents-and $300 in prizes-Hansen hopes tnings wm change as a result of a contest seeking a single symbol representing all elements of the university. Center to sponsor study workshops Study skills workshops, sponsored by the Educational Learning Center, will be this week from 3 to 5 pm. in Love Library Auditorium and again in February. The free sessions include listening and , notetaking, today and Feb. 13; SQ3R (reading method), Tuesday and Feb. 20; test-taking, Wednesday and Feb. 27; and memory and concentration, Thursday and Feb. 6. To register, contact the coordinator of the center at 472-1481. "While perceived in many different ways because we perform many roles and serve many publics," Hansen said, "we are one university. We believe development of a dominant symbol, or logo, will assist us in establishing a unified identity with the citizens of Nebraska." Open to everyone, the contest asks entrants to use either UN or NU for the symbol, leaving space to accommodate specific schools, departments, programs, and services within a campus. Entries must be received by March 31. Contest rules may be obtained by writing Jim Raglin, director of public affairs, University of Nebraska, 3935 Hold rege, Lincoln , Neb . 68583 . Judges from each campus and an out-of-state graphic design expert will select three winners whose symbols will be presented to the regents, Hansen said . The regents then have the right to en dorse any of the selections, or to reject all three. Hansen said that if the regents choose not to endorse any symbol, cash prizes still will be awarded: $200 for the one selected by the judges as best; $75 for second best; $25 for third best. No taxpayer funds will be involved in the prizes or in meeting the expenses for the no'n-Nebraska judge , he said . . llll gjg MAKE IT WITH 7EGHM1A : .. . .
