Both were elected to their positions two weeks ago by fraternity and sorority presi dents. Lee Chapin, a senior finance major and member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity i said in the late 60s the establishment was frowned upon. For example, business college enrollments were down, he said. The Greek Houses were seen as part of the establishment and became unpopular too, he said. Sarah Gerhart, a junior language arts major and member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority said Greek houses have increased membership because they offer support for individuals. She added that growth to the Greek system is like anything else an individual participates in. "The more you put into it, the more you get out of it, "she said. Gerhart said it was good that several houses' violations of campus alcohol policy this semester were brought out in the open. The policy does not allow alcohol on campus, she said. Greeks have a responsibility to follow university rules just like everyone else, Ger hart said. , "The alcohol problems are in the past and I don't forsee anymore. "Everything is understood now," Chapin said. Fraternities reflect society, he said. If there are drug or alcohol problems in society, they will be evident in fraternities as well. The function of the Panhellenic Association, Gerhart said, is to bring the in dependent sororities into one unified organization rather than have each competing with the others. Besides bringing fraternities and sorori ties together, she said, as a student organi zation Panhellenic works to improve the campus scholastically, as well as in other areas. Chapin said he sees Interfraternity Council . as a place to pool individual fraternity member talents and ideas, and as a place for the exchange of these ideas. A special goal for the Interfraternity Council this year is to encourage individual house members to get to know fraternity members of other house, Chapin said. He cited the "Week on the Wagon" alcohol awareness campaign co-sponsored by the Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Tau Omega fraternities this semester as an activity, which provided - such an opportunity. The newly-elected executives said the first activity for their organizations for the year will be an officer workshop for all Greek house officers on Feb," 9, 1980.
