The entertainment page ran a poor fifth.
But, when asked if they read the enter
tainment page, 44 percent of the students
said they read the page all the time, and 40
percent said they read it occasionally. As
for faculty, 38 percent read entertainment
regularly and 25 percent read the page
occasionally.
Those interviewed also were asked if
they read the sports page. Sixty eight per
cent of the students said they read the page
regularly. And 14 percent said they read it
sometimes. Forty -three percent of the
faculty , : staff - and administrators read
sports regularly, 23 percent read the page
occasionally.
When asked how often they read the
Daily Nebraskan, 62 percent of the stu
dents said they read the newspaper every-,
day, whereas 43 percent of the faculty
staff and administrators read the paper
every day.
THIRTEEN PERCENT said they read
the paper four times a week. Fifteen per
cent said they read it three times a week.
- The: percentage of people who read the
Daily Nebraskan one or two times a week
was significantly lower. And 1 percent said
they don't read the Daily Nebraskan at all.
To the question, "once you start to read
a story in the Daily Nebraskan, how much
do you finish," 87 percent of the students
and 75 percent of the staff said they finish
(he entire story. However, many qualified
their answers, saying that the first few
paragraphs will determine whether the
story catches their attention.
When asked if they think the Daily Ne
braskan should print more state and
national news, 36 percent of the students
and less than 2 percent of the staff said
yes.
Many of the students who said they
want to see more state and national news
also said the Daily Nebraskan is the only
paper they read on a daily basis. However,
many added they don't want to see the .
existing content suffer to make room fors
additional news. . ;
Respondents also offered comments
about the paper. : ' '' , " 'r'"'
Randy Bush, a UNL graduate student,
said, "In cases where a story is controver
sial f believe the paper should research and
investigate a wider range of opinions."
Bush's opinion was echoed by several
others.
ANOTHER GRADUATE student com
plained there are no Daily Nebraskans left
in the racks in the evening during night
classes.
A few members of the administration
said they had been misquoted.
Paul Fischbach, professor of agricultural
engineering, said he had been misquoted
and that the Daily Nebraskan should be
"eliminated altogether."
However, another member of the UNL
staff had only positive comments about the
Daily Nebraskan.
Marjorie Reid, assistant to the directors
of Conservation and Survey Division, said,
"I've been with the university longer than I
like to think about; and I can't believe how
much the quality has increased. I'm from
the day when they used to print who was
pinned to who." '
Linda Arnold, secretary in Chancellor
Roy Young's office, said Daily Nebraskan
reporters are persistent.
If 'they don't get the information they
need or want, they persist. And usually
they get the . information they need."
Others said they thought the crossword
puzzle was too difficult, or would like to
see a listing of movie times.
Because of the short notice, many made
no comments. ,
One person interviewed said he thought
the content of the personals was too limit
ed. V
"Sometimes I'll take a personal down to
the paper. It's not even x-rated and they
won't print it," he said.
