Colorado holiday Ten men will be receiving a free three-day trip to Rocky Mountain High next semester as guests of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. Several UNL faculty members are beginning research on how high altitudes affect people. The work is being done in conjunction with the University of Wyoming. Wes Sime, associate professor of IIPER, said research ers are looking for-nine or 10 moderately fit males between the ages of 18 and 30 to volunteer for various tests. The study is to try and find out why some people develop mountain sickness, while others do not, he said. "First we will try and find different biological characteristics among people that may cause the -illness, and then we can concentrate on wavs to do something about it,'' Sime said. Volunteers will receive a careful medical and physical screening to determine fitness and exercise tolerance daily nebraskan 1 needs volunteers levels Following that, some research wiU be done at the UNL Coliseum in the human performance lab. Sometime next semester, the participants will be taken to Fort Collins, Colo., for a weekend. There, they will spend a few days in an" altitude chamber at a simulated altitude between 10,000 and HjOOO feet. . "Probably the biggest advantage to the program is that the participants will have an opportunity to see how they respond to altitude and exertion, in addition to the trip to Colorado," Sime said. He added that the participants could stay in Colorado longer than the one weekend and would still be brought back here at no expense. CAPUPC Culture Center 7 pjn. in the Union.
