thursday, december 6, 1979 daily nebraskan page 13 Creielxton . . . Continued from Page 12 "I was very impressed with their defense. They've kept playing the tough defense they've been known for," Apke said. "With their quickness, they're ing to be tough to defense. Jerry Shoecraft (Husker forward) does an excell ent job of getting out on the fast break. 'Jack Moore is probably their key. He's their catalyst on the fast break and really makes things go on the court. We will definitely have to stop Moore to contain their fast break." APKE ALSO is worried about the Husker's center, Andre Smith. Swimmer... Continued from Page 12 Douglas said he feels that Bentz, now in his second year at Nebraska, has greatly improved the swimming pro gram. "We finished fourth in the Big Eight last year in coach Bentz 's first year," he said. 'That's pretty good consider ing Nebraska finished last in the conference the two years before that." DOUGLAS EXPLAINED that Bentz has incorporated several new ideas into Nebraska's swimming program, like a weight program to help the swimmer's strength and endurance. "Our -dual meet times should be better this year because of the weight program," he said. . '..''' '" . '. .. Not only has Bentz acquired equipment for the team but he does more to help the program, Douglas said. "There's no question he's done a lot for the program here. His recruiting and the way he handles the swimmers are that two things that really stand out," he said; 'Things are really looking up for the future. Cal is al ways getting us equipment and that helps us. It shows us he's trying to prepare us the best he can," he said. "It makes the swimmers feel good." . .w mn e 5 a x from down low,"Apke said. Well have to keep him from getting the ball down low." Apke said he isn't sure if he'll play Honz on Smith or Morrow. They have a strange combination of size like we did last year and that makes it tough to determine how well play," Apke said. "We'll just have to look at the scouting reports and see who will match up better on him (Smith)." Stovall has seen the Huskersplay twice this season and he said he though the Bluejays would win. 'They've got some good players, but we've got the size on them," Stovall said. "We also play better defense than they do." . Douglas said his goal last year was to win the Big Eight The Huskers didn't win the conference title but Douglas did win the 200-yard backstroke. ' This year he has set his goals even higher. He said he wants to qualify for the NCAA championship meet. He said the NCAA meet is difficult to qualify for. Just two times were met last year in the entire Big Eight. The team goal, of course, is a Big Eight championship," he said. . "We think we can do it. The meet is in Lincoln and that helps," he said. ' He said Iowa State and Kansas, who finished ahead of the third-place Huskers in last week's Big Eight relays, will prove to be Nebraska's toughest competition in the con ference this year. - 'To win, everyone will have to have a personal best, and I don't think that's too high of a goal," he said. An advantage this year's team has on last year's is its depth. "You take 1 8 to each meet and this year every one of our guys should score," he said. "Our depth will be a factor in keeping close to the leaders." The Husker's next meet will be Friday at 7 p m, against Colorado at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Saturday, - Nebraska faces Colorado State in a dual meet. Bowl games Dec. 15 Garden State Bowl at East Rutherford, N J. Temple (9-2) vs. California (6-5), noon. Independence Bowl at Shreveport, La. .
