"In my eyes, the project went over very well and we re ceived a lot of favorable comments from state legislators, students on campus and even Paul Harvey," Sandy Bede said. The project, which was co-sponsored by the Alcohol Awareness committee and Alpha Tau Omega and Sipna Phi .Epsilon fraternities, was designed to promote public concern about alcohol on the UNL campus and make people aware that students are concerned about it. In addition to having people not drink for a week, other activities during the week promoted alcohol aware ness and raised money for the All University Fund. Kent Russell spoke to a crowd of about 150 in the Ne braska Union Tuesday night. Russell, an Alcoholics Anonymous member, told of living in a fraternity house, becoming an alcoholic and reforming. "His speech made the people in the audience really look at themselves individually and see how easy it is for something like alcohol to take over," Bede said. On Wednesday night, the ATO and Sigma Phi Epsilon houses held a backgammon and card party. Thursday the houses sponsored roller skating at the Arena Roller Skat ing Center. Saturday, dpnuts and hot chocolate were sold in' the plaza in front of the Nebraska Union. . "The highlight of the week was a dance Saturday night at the Union with Blackberry Winter playing," Bede said. "We had close to 400 people attending and we raised a lot of money." , Lee Chapin of the Sigma Phi Epsilon house said his house had 100 percent participation in staying, on the wagon and that most of the members in the house thought the week was fun. . "It was very good for us as individuals to see what it would be like to go for a week without drinking," Chapin said. "And I was amazed at the success there was." Chapin said he did not know of any other houses that stayed off the wagon for the week, besides their house and the ATO house, but that some house presidents did take the challenge. Hupp said that the ATOs had excellent participation in their house and although he is not sure everyone didn't drink, no one was ever against the idea. Bede said people can now see that someone is doing something about alcohol on the UNL campus and that a mature effort went into planning and participating in the "Week on the Wagon." The Native American Art Show is being displayed in the second floor of the Nebraska Union. The last date is Nov. 26. The show is sponsored by the UPC-CC and CAIS. The UNL Range Club will meet Nov. 19 at 8 p.m., in the East Campus Union. Room will be posted. Internships for second semester are available in several Lincoln agencies for upper level students.
