daily nebraskan pags 11 oXo fir- monday, november 12, 1979 Huskers ... Continued from Page 10 Quinn, who hit on six of 10 passes for 58 yards, said the Huskers weren't overlooking Kansas State. "We can't do that. We're not overlooking anybody. We have to be ready to play our best," he added. "Games like this just happen and we have to overcome them. I think we need a little more concentration. Quinn credited the win to the Husker defense, which again held an opponent under 100 yards rushing (KSU got 79). And for the first time, this year, the Nebraska defense scored a touchdown. L.C. Cole intercepted a Darrell Dickey pass in the first quarter and returned it 60 yards. Dean Sukup's PAT gave the Huskers their first lead. Cole said he felt good about the win but was worried about the injuries to what he called "key people." "We didn't want to play Jarvis because he was hurt " Cole said about the closeness of the game. 4,I thought maybe it was serious when we had to use him." Cole's statistics didn't end with an interception. He also broke up one pass, had seven unassisted tackles, seven assisted tackles, one tackle for a loss of four yards, and a fumble recovery. . . Maybe the most impressive statistics of the day were those of sophomore cornerback Ric Lindquist. He intercepted three Dickey passes, tying a school record held by Joe Blahak and Dana Stephenson . He said the Nebraska secondary was in. a different coverage on each interception. "We did a good job of mixing up our coverage. K-State was confused most of the time." . Lindquist praised the defensive line for aiding the secondary. "They did a heck of a job. He (Dickey) played under a lot of pressure today" Only once the NU defense allowed the Wildcats to drive the length of the field. At the start of the second half, K -State went 80 yards in 10 plays to take a 12-7 lead on L. J. Brown's one-yard run. The Wildcats' first touchdown came in the opening minute of play after Johnson fumbled on the Huskers 26 yard line. On second and 10, Dickey passed to John Liebc in the corner of the end zone, to give K-State a 6-0 lead. The extra-point was missed for the tenth time this year and forced K-State to later go for a two-point conversion, which also failed. For the game, Kansas State had 251 yards offense, 172 in the air. Nebraska rushed for 272 yards, 100 below its season average, and passed for only 66 yards. Substitute defensive end Jimmy Williams, who had three tackles, broke up 'a pass and recovered a fumble, summed up the latest Nebraska comeback. "We're a comeback team. We can always pull together," Williams said. "We have enough depth that we can go full steam all the time. ' Hie Nebraska volleyball team improved their record to 37-6-3 defeating Missouri Western 15-11, 15-5, 15-11 at the Coliseum Saturday.
