A lot of people are like my boss. They think that everyone dies of cancer. I thought so. too. Until the American Cancer Society, through one of its service and rehabilitation programs, helped me return to a normal life. The ACS also has local Units that help Americans who've never had cancer understand it better. Today, more and more, cancer is a curable disease. Ignorance about cancer is curable, too. American Cancer Society Drug abuse class offered at UNL Alcohol is the third leading drug killer and is responsible for more physical, social and economic problems in the United States than any other drug, according to a UNL associate professor. Robert S. Weppner, associate professor of health education and Director of the Nebraska Center for Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism Prevention, will be teaching a four-week mini course that will deal with the historical, cultural, legal and physical aspects of drugs from alcohol to heroin. "I'm not going to deal with moral or ethical issues," he said. ' "Drugs are here to stay," he said. "There is archaeological evidence that shows that man has used drugs for 60,000 years." "I want to help people make informed choices about alcohol and other drugs." Weppner has taught the course at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Miami. Weppner has also served as the Chief of the Social Science Section at the Federal Narcotics Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Before coming to UNL this semester, he was assistant dean at the School of Allied Health Professions in Milwaukee, Wise. The mini course, Health Education 255, began Monday. r Buy this- Get this EREE mil 6 AIM Discussions on SALT II with U.S. State Dept. Officer THOMAS W.
