Can't help but be frustrating. The Christian, however, can be joyful. He has hope. He knows God is running the show. And that it comes out all right in the end. He may not know how, or why, but he knows. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is among those working and knowing. FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 16th & K Streets 475-4289 FDA finds carcinogenic in 28 beers By Nancy Brumbaugh Despite the Federal Food and Drug Administration's findings that 28 beers contain small amounts of a cancer causing agent, Lincolnites involved in beer sales said they do not think the report will have much effect. The FDA released a list of 28 beers said to contain trace amounts of the carcinogen dime thy Initrosamine. According to the report, four nationally distributed beers have more than five parts per billion of dime thy Initrosa mine, which has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals. The four are Budweiser, Schlitz, Colt 45 Malt Liquor and Tuborg. Two beers contained no carcinogens; Coors, of Colorado and Guinness Stout made in Great Britain. v Are people likely to stop drinking beer? "No matter what the FDA says about beer causing cancer, people will still indulge in what they enjoy doing," said Mike Thies, part time manager of The Water Hole, 148 N. 14th St. "I don't think we'll see a change in sales." A bartender at Horse feathers, 1228 P St., Keith Sindt, was skeptical. "It seems pretty far-fetched to me. Any more, it seems that anything causes cancer," he said. He cited smoking as an example. Manager at Sweep Left, 815 0 St., John Withrow, said that he hadn't heard any customers discussing the FDA findings. "I don't think anyone is going to be scared away," he said. "People drink for enjoyment. I don't CLIPPING ALONG appointments available call 4744455 124 No. 12th (2Vi blks. No. of Campus on 12th) 8-5.30M-F 8-4 SAT. Dana Stover, manager of Chesterfield, Bottomsley and Potts, 245 North 13 St., said she thought the FDA report "is probably valid." She said that if it wasn't, the beer in dustry would have denied the results. Stover said she thought that the majority of people are unaware that carcinogens have been found in beer. "I don't think it will affect sales. It seems that people will scoff," she said. "I think people will always drink and always find reasons to drink." On the wholesale level, Bob Russell, manager of D & D Distributing, said he didn't know how dangerous five parts per billion is. "If it is a health hazard, I'm sure the breweries will make every effort to get it out of there. If it involves a change in equipment, I'm sure the breweries will make every effort to change," he said.
