Nebraska's volleyball team was defeated far ti, n,.r
time this ieason in a match against Northern Colorado
University Saturday.
The ifusken lost in five sets, 12-15, 15-8, 10-15, 15-10
and 9-15, breaking an 1 1-game winning streak.
Team captain Nancy Grant led the NU's effort with
strong attacking In the second and fourth games.
The Huskers will travel Wednesday to Manhattan, Kan.
for a triangular meet with Kansas State and Wichita State.
The UNL women's cross country team placed third in
the Kansas University Invitational Saturday. Chris Mass
led the NU runners with a time of 19:37, good for 14th
place.
The next meet for the team will be Oct. 6 at Iowa
State.
The UNL women's golf team opened their season this
past week with a pair of meets.
From Sept. 17-19, the team competed in the Okla
homa City Invitational. The Huskers tied for 17th place
out of 21 schools. Tulsa, one of the top five teams in the
country, won the meet. Cathy Morrissey was low scorer
for the Huskers.
Friday and Saturday, tha Hunkers finished tlxth In a
13-team Invitational at Iowa State. Low scorer for the
Huskers was Jan Stanard.
The next meet for the team will be Thursday and Fri
day at the AIAW Region VI meet at Wichita.
The Nebraska women's Softball team split two games in
the Creighton Invitational tournament Saturday.
The Huskers lost the opener to Creighton, 10 in eight
innings, despite a four-hit, eight strikeout pitching of
freshman Linda Mlzener. Creighton scored an unearned
run, enough to drop Mlzener's record to 3-2 in the fall
season.
Connie Gonyea tossed a tliree-hitter in the second
game as Nebraska edged Iowa State 3-1.
Both the men's and women's tennis teams opened their
fall seasons last weekend.
Saturday, the men's squad lost to Kansas and Missouri
by identical scores of 6-3 in a double dual at Lawrence.
Husker winners against Missouri were Hal Koch and Scott
Klaus in singles and the team of Kerry McDermott and
Dale Christian in doubles. Against Kansas, NU winners
were McDermott and Klaus in singles and the team of
Klaus and Kent Lysgaard In doubles.
The men's next meet is 3:30 p.m. Thursday at home
against Doane.
The women's team finished with a 1-2 record In an
invitational meet at Columbia, Mo. Friday and Saturday.
The Huskers downed Iowa State 63, but lost to Iowa 63
and to Missouri 7-2.
NU won four of six singles matches and two of three
doubles matches in the Iowa State win. Against Iowa, Sue
Sloboth and Ann Swanson were winners In singles while
the team of Sloboth and Rocky Rlssi won In doubles.
Against Missouri, Cindy Reiman won in singles while
Swanson and Rissi combined for a doubles victory.
