UNL police have added yet another obstacle for parking violators. Most parking violators, who are now just getting used to rhino boots, will now have to get used to six new police cadets. Capt. Ken Markle said "the six cadets will do nothing but write traffic tickets. "This is going to make a big difference. We (UNL police) will be able to get kids sooner who have back tickets," said Markle. , , The rhino boots, Markle said, will still be used with anyone having two citations that haven't been paid within 20 days. The cost for having the rhino boot removed is $5 plus whatever money is owed in tickets. A rhino boot locks a wheel. If the student has mag wheels or any other kind of expensive wheel the car will probably be towed in. Markle said because rhino boots can break some kinds of wheels the car will be 07 1 l IaIcI. lor JmUIsIs a sto n t Jm c" k cuTTTos Mo C l s TTfwJI T jiO H "t 11 s t Iw TTtTI p T ? fi c k w rmm. s TTT n c 0 Ji 0 c ITT t 0 u f t s w t J 0 77 JL R TOT TT U D tst Tm?i y srzj k s jrT W t'wfo e w t otjs, w "e'sit f oJTr u l lo" s a f ill T ni. y e" Hi 1 1 0 n 11 6 .0 o 01 1 TT oT t T Tic' JoEwlTrLiBlEslT towed by Whitney AAA, located at 216 W. OSt. The towing cost is $20, and the tickets must be paid before UNL police will authorize a release on the car. However. Markle said, the rhino boot will be used if possible instead of towing. Markle said AAA handles all the car tows for the city and UNL because they are the best equipped and are insured up to $100,000 for any damages a car may re ceive while being towed. Markle said during the school year, 400 to 600 tickets a day are written, with a collection rate of 75 percent. He said the other 25 percent are not paid because of valid reasons, which UNL police will take under consideration. The cost of parking tickets in a permit area is $5 if paid within 10 working days and $10 after ten days. A meter ticket is $2, and $4 after 10 days. Markle said most tickets for meters are given simply because the student is too lazy and careless about keeping money in the meter. Markle said the only areas on campus patrolled 24 hours a day were those around dorms and service areas. As a result of the parking problem, John Duve, UNL parking coordinator, said a parking lot near Harper, Schramm, Smith dormitory will be completed in October with space for about 300 additional cars. He said several other parking areas are being repaired. Duve said the first , week of classes would be a problem, but said the only thing he could recommend is that students buy parking permits and find out where they belong.
