Lending, library makes prints available
Students Interested in putting artwork instead of
posters on their dorm room walls should Investigate the
Art Lending library.
Sponsored by the University Program Council, the
library offers prints of famous artwork to students and
faculty. The collection includes prints of works by
Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Braque, Degas, Matisse, Picasso,
Grant Wood, Norman Rockwell and many other well
known artists. The works are in good condition although
some are older than others, according to Bonnie Lutz,
chairwoman of UPC-Citys visual arts committee.
A WORK CAN BE RENTED for the semester by pre
senting a university identification card. Only one print
can be checked out on a card, but students can present
friend's cards to rent additional prints.
'There may also be a small charge, ranging from 50
cents to $1.50, just to cover our expenses," she said.
At the end of the semester, renters return their prints
to a booth in one of the university unions.
"It's just like checking out a library book. There's a
time printed on the back of the print telling when it is
due. The date is usually about a week before finals," Lutz
said. "We usually have pretty good luck in getting the
prints back undamaged."
ABOUT 200 WORKS WILL be displayed in the
Nebraska Union main lounge and 100 more will hang on
the walls of the Loft in the Nebraska East Union. Follow
ing a display period from Aug. 26 through Sept. 10, stu
dents can check out prints Sept. 8 from 1 1 a jn. to 1 p.m.
and Sept. 10 from 3 pm. to 5 p.m.
