Ellis, convicted of manslaughter In connection with the death of former UNL student Debra Foryckl, filed an amended motion for a new trial Friday Aug. 17 contending he was denied a fair trial because of some ad mitted evidence. The amended motion revised a prior motion request ing a new trial filed after his conviction in May. Ellis, a former UNL student, was attending a seminary in Chicago when Forycki's remains were discovered in a water wagon near Elmwood in 1978. He was returned to Lincoln to face murder charges in connection with her disappearance on Oct. 3, 1974. Ellis' petition mentioned "accident or surprise regard- Hall of Fame taps Mable Lee Hailed as a "pioneer in women's physical educa tion," Miss Mable Lee, who chaired the UNL women's physical education depart ment for 28 years, was in ducted into the Iowa Wo men's Hall of Fame on Mon day. Lee, 93, was born in Cen terville, Iowa and spent her entire professional career expanding women's opportunities in physical education. She became the first woman president of both the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation and the Am erican Academy of Physical Education. The women's physical education building on UNL's campus was named for her in honor of her battle for equal opportunit ies in women's sports. Hogg touring swine, Farlin studying beef on tour in Romania Two UNL faculty mem bers left last week for a study tour of swine installa tions and beet teedlots in Romania. Dr. Alex Hogg, extension veterinarian, and Dr. Stan Farlin, extension beef cattle nutritionist, are participat ing in a scientific exchange sponsored by the State De partment's International Co operation Administration. Hogg will inspect indi vidul swine production units, the largest producing 100,000 hogs per year, and Farlin will visit central Ro mania, where feedlots ap proach 15,000 head in one confinement unit. This included testimony about a note linking Ellis to Foryckl when the evidence itself wasn't made available to Ellis until immediately before the trial, the motion stated. He also objected to what he called "prejudicial evi dence" including reports of hair samples obtained from his ex-wife'a car, testlmbny about previous crimes Ellis had allegedly committed, as well as testimony from doc tors concerning manners of death and the possibility of suicide.
