The program started in the faU of 1075, will begin its fifth year under the direc tion of O.W. Kopp, pro fessor and chairman of the Elementary Education Department tn UNL'i Teachers College. The first masters degree were awarded in May, 1978 and so far 15 students have earned their degree in the program. The program was established after officials at Peru State College cited a need for graduate level courses to serve teachers in the area who were In terested tn furthering their level courses at Peru. Typically. 20-25 students have enrolled tn courses of fered during both the first and second aemester and in the aummer at Peru. Most of the faculty members who have taught the 18 classes ao far offered through the program have been from UNL, but aome faculty members from UNL have also taught classes at Peru. Kopp aaid that perhaps the greatest mark of suc cess for the program has been the "positive working relationship1 between Peru and UNL, and the will ingness of UNO to cooperate tn the program. A unique feature of the program, he said, is the Area Advisory Board which meets tn the faU and spr ings of each year to provide suggestions for programm- education and Increasing tng.
