Feifer? 6Hold Me9 takes entertaining look at 70
By Frank Smith
Hold Me by Jules Feif f er, one of the plays presented by
the Nebraska Repertory Theatre this summer, Is a
pleasant summer evening's entertainment.
The play presents around 90 minutes of sheer
pandemonium, organized i insanity that comments on the
basic human condition in the 70's.
Through short poetic speeches, the actors comment on
subjects ranging from kinky sex, to cottage cheese stuck in
between teeth, to everyone's basic need to be wanted.
Director William R. Morgan uses an interesting group
of actors, each with a different caliber of experience. They
compliment and help each other through the performance.

performance, there was a tendency on the part of some to
give the audience a surface idea of the character he or she
portrayed and then stop any other development.
What made some characters more interesting was their
belief in themselves. Joe McNeely of Lincoln, in various
roles in the play, showed this empathy with his characters.
His portrayal of a paranoid bajeball pitcher in the
vignette 'Don't Stare at Me' and his confusion at the
laundromat in 'More Sock' was effective for that very
reason. .
Stephanie Kallos, as an inspired dancer, added a
continuity to the scenes that would have been obnoxious
by an actress of lesser talents.
Kallos' every movement suggested to the audience a
subtle reaction ot the action on stage, without sacrificing
the central thought of the scene.
The play's total look was functional for the actors.

versatile.
The costumes, by Crystal Craft, were minimal limited,
to subtle changes in jacket or shirt, but they fit the play's
