With Gary Howe. Rick Mann and Han
son, the Bluegrass Crusade, as a trio, per
formed for about two months. When they
were put second on the bill after Bill
Monro w, a well-known bluegrass artist,
they decided to expand the group and in
clude a singer, At that point they added
Dalton as bass player, but switched him to
guitar and had Morris play bass.
The band spllf up in 1976 but formed
again in August of 1978. The same memb
ers have been playing together since.
Hanson said members of the Bluegrass
Crusade don't write much music because
they prefer old songs.
"There is a wealth of material we can
work with," Hanson said. "It's fun to write
but it's also fun to perform the original
music." ,
The group has one record out that was
recorded over a year's span called, Pick and
Shooes.
If you're a die-hard rock V roll fan,
there are still opportunities to listen to a
live band.
Charlie Burton and Rock Therapy is a
good example.
The group has put out two records, with
Burton doing all of the writing, called'
Rock and Roll Behavior and Guitar Case.
Burton said he started writing work that
pleased him in 1970. The-band now does
about half of his original work when per
forming. "If we're playing a concert all we do is
our stuff. I hate to sound like a record and
I hope 111 never want to do that," Burton
said.
Burton said the group has been critical
ly successful with their record releases,
which were financed privately.
Butch Berman, otherwise known as
"Much Moreman", described the band as a
"legend of the time with their own follow
ing." The group now is made up of Burton,
rhythm guitar and singer; "Much More
man," lead guitar; Dave Robel, drums; and
Otto Spalti, bass.

Gene Cotton, The Zass
off Boys and Sour Mash
will headline Cornstock
today from 12:30 to 5:30
p.m. on East Campus.
But if rain clouds threa
ten, the concert will be can
celed because inside facili
ties were not available this
year, -according to Elaine
Jenkins of the Campus Ac
tivities and Programs office.
If the concert runs as
scheduled, those attending
will be treated to music
ranging from rock V- roll to
country swing and bluegrass
with Gene Cotton as the
featured performer.
His music is described as
a combination of folk, jazz
and rock.
A South Carolina-based
group, The Zassoff Boys,
will precede Cotton. The
band is billed as an out
law bluegrass band.
The band is one of the
few bluegrass bands in the
country to include
percussion with the usual
stringed-instrument ensem
ble. A local group, Sour
Mash, also will precede Cot
ton. Sour Mash is des
cribed as playing a mixture
of country swing and rock
n' roll.
A popular group in local
bars, the group recently has
released an album entitled
Sour Mash. The group's first
album was called Sour Mash
Drinks and Goes Home.
Barring inclement wea
ther, a musical treat should
be on tap for Cornstock
goers.
