friday, february 16, 1979 page 6 daily nebraskan SUN party candidate rises for ASUN presidency By Shelley Smith For the first time since 1974, ASUN elections will see three serious parties. Bud Cuca, with the Students for Univer sity Need (SUN) party, announced his pres idential candidacy Thursday morning. lie joins Scott Brittenham with the Stu dents Advocating Innovative Leadership (SAIL) party, and Joe Nigro with the Stu dents for Active Representation (SOAR) party in the presidential race. Cuca, a junior business administration major, said he believes ASUN has good potential, but needs to be more willing to reach out to the students and faculty. "ASUN sometimes thinks that students and administration will come to them," he said. His experience with people on campus is his primary qualification for the presiden cy, Cuca said. He has served as a student representative to the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska Human Resources Research Foundation, served as pledge class president for Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity and lobbied against Sen. Ralph Kelly's first drinking jige bill last year. Survey students Cuca said he plans to survey possible candidates for SUN party senators and the student body to find out what students want from ASUN. "We (SUN) don't want to go out on a limb on certain issues without knowing what the students want," he said. However, he did say that he believes the major issues students are concerned with include tuition, alcohol privileges in the residence halls and residence hall visita tion policies. "We want to get things done for John Jones the student," lie said. ml ke at os all Hats? EmMM Men's & Ladies Down Coats & Vests by Gerry, Miller, and Trail Ridge. Sandberg, a junior university studies ma jor, said he believes ASUN needs to "take a more mature approach to student govern ment." Sandberg said that when he was a fresh man he was told that ASUN was a joke. Focused his time "So I focused my time not on ASUN, but on the Arts and Sciences Advisory Board," he said. Sandberg believes there is a great lack of respect for the student government by the faculty and administration, and labeled it "very unfortunate." lie said that many times ASUN has passed bill that were "ill-thought through, poorly planned and irresponsible." Hut instead of merely griping about the problems, Sandberg said he decided to run for first vice president so he "can do some thing about it." Cuca's second vice president is Susan Wragc. a junior in the Teachers College and a previous ASUN senator. Wrage, a member of Kappa Alpha Theta social sorority, said she believes ASUN needs more input from people other than senators. "Outside input will help us see what we're doing, where we stand and why," she said. Union Board story corrected An error was made in Wednesday's Union Board story entitled "Union Board rejects food service company's proposal". The third paragraph from the end should have read: "Swanson said because the union would be providing ARA with so many services, the union would lose about 550,000 above and beyond the $94,000 to repairs and maintenance." The Daily Nebraskan regrets the error. 5 s man ogcWttie uiorfd "w ' - T 1L 1 Pcwl (teujmon 8ibi finders son Fernondofleu as1 V4 Omtif' v ARtorioGossnnQn " honk fiofhydt & fiobert ftfcmon Potricio ResnK "Robert flltman.
