Finding out about the world and learning to look at Blood donors paired Blood donation on behalf of a senior citizen is the focus of the blood buddy program, co-sponsored by the Lincoln Area Agency on Aging and the Community Blood Bank. The two-year-old program matches the older generation who may need blood donated in their names in order to receive the benefits of a membership in the Com munity Blood Bank, with the contributions of younger donors. Many persons over 65 are unable to give blood for themselves because of medication or health problems, according to Dena Zimmer. Assistant Administrator of the Area Agency. Consequently, they must pay for blood used in a transfusion, as Medicare only partially covers the cost of the blood. Through the blood buddy program, an annual blood donation by a younger person guarantees an older person membership in the Blood Bank, providing them medical and financial protection. Currently, donations have been received for 260 elderly households. V EVER MONDAY fJllTE PtL VOU CAN - . SALM. Continued from Page 4 plague meaning certain death. As a people, we should be about the business of addressing this technological geno cide of black peoples' dignity. As a people, as a nation, we must put a stop to this problem facing all my Third Word brothers and sisters in white America. I have yet to see a Chicano on television that wasn't in a street gang, carrying a knife or something similar. Further, I have seen Chinese people depicted as railroad workers, domestic servants, and laundry attend ants, but rarely are they characterized as doctors, lawyers, or even school teachers. And the Native American people who discovered this country are almost always shown as savages in the wild west or flunkies. This seduction of minds is wrong and must stop now. We need positive self-images for black people to hold on to and motivate them on their way in the future. We need strong assertive males in every family situation. We need beautiful black women as our leading ladies. We need black people characterized as complete families on each and every program. But more than anything, we need in tellectual stimulation, something a little more than "where will I get my next meal?" or even, "how many women can I take out this week?" We need something that we can be proud of, but most of all, we need it to be real ! Editor's note: Sterns is a senior special education and English BLUEGRASS FANS Chicago's top Bluegrass band.
