friday, december 15, 1978 daily nebraskan Residence hall rates to go up By Sara Martens The UNL Housing Director said resi dence hall rates are expected to increase S77-S88 for the 1979-80 school year ac cording to a rate study presented to the Residence Hail Association Tiiuisday night. Doug Zatechka said the projected budget would increase the present $1,335 rate for a double room by 6.8 percent to $1,428. This $93 increase could decrease to around $80 with some cost cutting and income generating measures, he said. "We don't want to do any more than minor cuts," he said. "We're looking hard to find minor cuts before damaging stu dent services." Some of these cuts include voluntarily limiting the amount of orange juice students use due to a drastic increase in the juice price and increasing the cost of wash ers and dryers from 25 and 10 cents re spectively to 35 and 20 cents. These two cuts would take $9.98 from the proposed increase. A total of $22.09 could be subtracted from the increase if all suggested cuts were accepted, lowering the room rate to $1405, a $70 increase. Payroll expenditures which will increase 10.1 percent and food costs with a projected 8.5 percent increase are the greatest increases in next year's budget. Zatechka said these rates reflect a 9 to 11 percent inflation rate. RHA informally supported an increase of $80. A quorum was not present for a formal vote. Bill Skoneki, RHA president said he hopes the regents will wait on their approval of the increases until RHA rep resentatives have had time to discuss the proposals with their dorms. Zatechka said he wants a decision in January from the Regents and that a delay would hinder publication of contracts for next year. calendar 12 p.m -Muslin Student Association, Room 337 12:30 p.m.-Lngineering Mechanics luncheon.
