friday, december 8, 1978 daily nebraskan page 15 Celebrated coaches . . . Continued from page 4 Replacing Boyd Epley as the weight coach would have been Abe Gibron-form-er Chicago Bear coach. His 300-pound plus body would have influenced incoming freshmen to become the same type of men. University of Nevada-Las Vegas basket ball coach Jerry Tarkanian, who is in hot water with the NCAA over recruiting viola tions, could have been given another chance at UNL. Offering him the job as recruiting coordinator would give Tarkanian a chance to recruit top name players to Lincoln-no matter what tactics he used. Tough defense At defensive coordinator, Lee Corso would have been the obvious choice. Even though his Indian team lost to the Huskers this year, his defense held I.M. Hipp under 200 yards, held the offense under a 600 yard production, and held the Huskers' scoring production under 70 points. For his heroics in the 1972 Super Bowl, Miami Dolphin's Garo Yepremian would be the obvious choice as quarter back coach -a new position that would have been created because of Parseghian's heavy load. Although he stands 6-foot-5 inches and weighs near 240 pounds, former Husker Mike Fultz would have been the obvious choice as secondary coach. His strong defensive play in the 1976 Hawaii game as a substitute corner back would have been strong credentials. No comment At Academic Counselor and public re lations director, Duane Thomas would have been the best choice. Players seeking advice for some classes could easily relate to Duane, who would offer them his best advice-no comment. The Husker program could have made big changes in college football if they could have hired Phyllis George as the football team's trainer. The training room may have been filled with "injured" athletes, but morale would have been at an all-time high. Finally, if the sports information em ployees would have traveled to Boulder with Osborne, the logical replacement would be none other than Woody Hayes. When the Huskers win, the press is easy to handle. Bit if they lose, Hayes could have stood at Allen's side and punched out cameramen and bad-mouthed reporters. It would have been a great change. UNL could have made a great mark in college football history. But, "praise the lord" this didn't happen, because "happy days are here again." Tom is back home. 1 Use carpooB HOTLINE to share the ride! want ads Rates: Regular classified ad 10 centswdday $1 minday individual & student ads $2 minday commer cial ads Classified Display $3col. inch Deadline 1 p.m. day before pub lication No refunds on pre-paid ads.
