On Nov. 24, a Russian student on the language floor
of Neihardt Hall hung by his room a poster printed in
Russian. That same day someone removed the poster and
wrote on the reverse side such comments as: "We do not
like those posters on our wall, so bug off commie pig,"
and signed it "Devoted Citizen of the USA."
This act was inappropriate for two reasons:
1 . This poster was displayed to express a Russian stu
dent's interest in the Russian language and culture and
was not intended to reflect political affiliations.
2. The purpose of the language floor in Neihardt is to
foster cultural awareness and knowledge of foreign lang
uage. The display of a poster of this sort in a language
floor is, therefore, appropriate.
Such antagonism will not discourage us from the open
display of our interest in the language and culture of the
Soviet Union. Consequently, similar posters may be dis
played in the future. These posters are not meant to
foster conflict, but to stimulate discussion and create
understanding of an important nation of the world.

Close campus
I know it is tough for the university to close down
campus due to snow, yet I still cannot understand their
reasoning for having school Monday morning.
A winter snowstorm rampaged across Nebraska Satur
day and Sunday giving parts of Nebraska what was
reported to be the heaviest snowfall in the country. Travel
advisories wde issued for all of Saturday night, Sunday,
and Sunday night, yet the university failed to recognize
this. Instead, Ihey decided to have school Monday and
rquire all the students (neighborhood of 23,000 I think),
to get out and drive!
Fortunately I made it, but I still don't see why the
university couldn't have let people drive Monday when
roads were much better, thus allowing all the students the
chance to make it back, alive.
