monday, november 27, 1978 daily nebraskan page 5 letter It seems to me that Val Swinton's article "University bonfire enthusiasm prompts 17 arrests" was slightly biased-against the law enforcement agencies represented and in favor of the Greek system. The article featured one of the Delta Upsilon's fine upstanding men, who was com templating legal actions for alleged mistreatment. The article also mentioned that only Greek and city-owned property was destroyed. The article did not mention that destruction of several trees, land-scaping and widespread littering of alcoholic beverage containers on university property and residence halls lawns. Nor were the burning of several signs such as the Seaton Hall and various parking signs mentioned. The article did not mention the attempted theft of the bike racks in front of Piper Hall to add to the blaze several bikes were still attached to the racks. Nor did the article mention the attempt (half-hearted though it was) to throw a Pacer onto the bonfire---when that attempt fail ed, several flammable materials were stuffed into the gas tank. The article did not mention that the piano burned be longed to the Kappa Sigma fraternity, who did not donate the piano it was stolen. The article did not mention those wholesome sorority girls who stopped cars at the lights on 16th and doused them with water and shaving cream -while preventing the cars from moving by standing in front of and behind the cars. The article did not mention the several fire alarms pulled by the childish rampage- although it turned out later that those alarms were needed. Instead, the reader was treated to eight paragraphs on Mike Phillips and his bravado. Jeanne M. Clark International studies sophomore Editor: s note: The information in the story concerning destruction of property was obtained from the police department. The officer on duty Friday morning did not mention destruction of trees, landscaping, the attempted destruction of a car, nor did he know if the piano was stolen. The reporter interviewed the police and a student charged concerning the incident, to get both sides of the story. 7-8 Mon.-Fri. 9-8 Sat. 12-6 Sun. 4 cyl. 6cyl. 8 cyl. $28.50 $33.50 $38.50 Tune-up special includes labor, points, condenser, and spark plugs for most domestic and im ported cars.
