ASUN has declared Saturday "Students' Day" and is
encouraging people to wear blue to the game. The intent
of this day is to bring awareness and support to the stu
dent's concerns.
Last Saturday Nebraskans everywhere watched as the
Huskers proved their superiority over the Sooners. Wo hope
that this kind of interest and enthusiasm can extend to
academics. Oklahoma has a $45,000 speakers program,
Nebraska's budding program was aborted last spring.
Nebraska received $11 million in federal research grants
(7th in the Big Eight); Oklahoma receives $26 million (3rd
behind Colorado's $36 million).
Why then do Oklahomans only pay $540 annually in
tuition and fees while we pay $808? We have the second
highest tuition in the Big Eight, and it is $157year more
than the national average for comparable institutions. In
the last three years our tuition costs have been increasing
nearly twice as fast as the national average rate.
Unfortunately, our dollars are not being spent to
retain or attract higher quality faculty. UNL's faculty
salaries were seventh in the Big Eight. Another com
parison places the University of Nebraska's salaries last on
a list of eight comparable institutions from across the
nation. We will continue to have a high turnover rate until
we can match the salary levels paid at other institutions.
We have an institution of which we can be proud. A
university cannot continue a high level of quality without
constant revaluation. We are urging everyone to talk to
parents and friends, write letters to appropriate
authorities, and to WEAR BLUE this Saturday to help
bring awareness to areas needing improvement.

Publications Board
frowns on alcohol
The Publication Board met Thursday evening. Part of
the meeting was closed for an executive session to discuss
beer drinking in the Daily Nebraskan office. Advisor
C. David Kotok said the session was closed because the
incident was considered a personnel matter by the board.
After discussion in closed session, the board passed the
following motion by acclamation: "The Publication Board
regrets the incident of October 27 when beer was found
on Daily Nebraskan premises in the Nebraska Union. This
matter has been reviewed through the appropriate
channels of the University." In the future, "the Publica
tion Board will not tolerate any consumption of beer,
liquor or any alcoholic beverages on the Daily Nebraskan
premises. The department head will be responsible to en
force this rule and dismiss any employee caught in
violation. Further, if there is a recurrence, the department
head will be responsible and it will be cause for dismissal
by the board."
The board also discussed the possibility of summer
publication of the Daily Nebraskan. Board chairman
Mark Bowen said he spoke to Director of the School of
Journalism R. Neale Copple. Copple said that he was tired
of dealing with the confusion of the Journalism School's
Summer Nebraskan and the Daily Nebraskan, according to
Bowen. Copple said he would agree to change the name of
the school's publication to the Summer Journalist, said
Bowen. He added that Copple said he would be against the
publication of the Daily Nebraskan during the summer if
the issue were raised. The change in the name of the
Summer Nebraskan would probably be effective next
summer, according to Bowen.
Daily Nebraskan advertising manager Denise Jordan
said she is still in favor of the summer publication of the
Daily Nebraskan. "It's unfair that we have no summer
publication," she said.

Student scapegoats
Anybody that was on the UNL campus over the week
end saw what college days are all about.
It could have been good, clean fun. Had the students
been able to handle it, nobody would have gotten hurt, no
arrests, no public embarrassment.
Maybe the fans in the southeast endzone are low class,
but most students are poor. But what they do not deserve
is to be publicly called bush league artists.
Certain people need only to witness the LPD last
Thursday night to see what bush league tactics are. And
the cockiness and conceit displayed by a heretofore re
spected Oklahoma football team could only come from a
bunch of low -class individuals.
But as usual, all these labels were reserved for the UNL
student body. It is too bad that a few people unnecessari
ly got hurt and it is too bad that a few high class people
had to resort to name calling. It is groups like the
southeast endzone fans that generate enthusiasm through
out Memorial Stadium. But come on folks, everybody
knows that you don't shower the losers with champagne
just the winners.

EFFECTIVENESS
ESTABLISHED IN
CUNICAL TESTS,
Encare Oval was subjected to one of the
most rigorous tests ever conducted for a
vaginal contraceptive. Results were
excellent showing that Encare Oval
provides consistent and extremely high
sperm-killing protection. This recent U.S.
report supports earlier studies in Euro
pearl laboratories and clinics.
Each Encare Oval insert contains a pre
cise, premeasured dose of the potent,
sperm-killing agent nonoxynol 9. Once
properly inserted, Encare Oval melts and
gently effervesces, dispersing the sperm
killing agent within the vagina.
The success of any contraceptive
method depends on consistent and
accurate use. Encare Oval " is so conve
nient you won't be tempted to forget it.
And so simple to insert, it's hard to make
a mistake.
If pregnancy poses a special risk for you.
your contraceptive method should be se
lected after consultation with your doctor.
OnO HORMONAL

cannot create hormone-related health
problems like strokes and heart
attacks that have been linked to the pill.

of cases, however, burning or irritation
