monday, november 6, 1978 daily nebraskan page 7 Force to survey unions, eight areas to be covered The Union Task Force Friday listed eight topics to be covered in a future survey of the Nebraska Unions. The group was commissioned by Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Richard Armstrong to design a survy of union customers, and either carry out the survey itself or appoint another group to do it. Mike Gibson, task force chairman, said Armstrong wants the survey results no later than March. The group decided to survey people about the following areas affecting the two unions: financial support, demographics (classification of people who use the union), consumer satisfaction, desired ser vices, who should control the union, basic philosophy of operation, external factors affecting the union, and space utilization. Task force members still are undecided about who should conduct the ..survey. Ira Dolich, UNL professor of marketing, said an outside agency should be hired to ensure legitimacy and expertise. Students don't have the know-how or the time to conduct such a survey, he said. "The Touche-Ross Audit (of the union) carries a lot of weight, and is a very strong document, because it was done by an out side company with expertise," Dolich said. But Bob Simonson, a graduate econ omics students, said he feels the task force should conduct the survey itself. "An outside firm will view it as being very sensitive and give you back what you already know," Simonson said. "I don't want to see something that's very diplo matic and very ineffective."
