Professional hockey team loses first 'home' game here

Hockey League came to Lincoln to play
the first of six hockey games this year in
Pershing Municipal Auditorium, but it was
the Anoke Nordiques that delivered the
winning punch.
The legendary Punch Fehringer did not
score any goals or get credited with any
assists, but the fiery skater did receive two
five -minute major penalties for fighting and
a game misconduct penalty.
A small crowd of about 600 saw Anoka
defeat the Sioux City team 4-2 Sunday
night. The six game series is an experiment

A UNL graduate is working at the
University Health Center as part of the
health center's new residents program.
Dr. Karen Martinson, who graduated
from UNL In 1970 and from the Univer
sity Medical Center in 1977, is the first
resident in the program.
The program a one-month rotation of
second -and -third -year residents who have
their medical degrees and have completed
one year or residency, according to Dr.

hockey team, the Omaha Knights, but it
was abolished Jby the parent Atlanta
Flames because it was not profitable.
Anoka took the early lead when they
scored two goals in the first period. Kejth
Ballstad scored the first goal at 13:59 with
assists by Bruce Norby and Keith Pauly.
Kurt Madygra scored the second goal 38
seconds later with an assist from Phil
Qualy.
In the second period, Anoka got it's
third goal when Joe Voyediech scored with
assists by Pete Soterberg and Max Schelde.

The program was started to give med
center students who work nights at the
health center a better understanding of the
continuity of health services offered by the
health center, Martinson said.
Attention really needed
The med school also thought the type
of patients at the health center would be
good for the residents to see, Martinson
said.
The fact that she is a pediatrician hasn't
caused any problems in her health center

second match was at the final buzzer where
he and his opponent Dan Hoene drew five
minute penalties and game misconducts.

some problems with the rink,
the crowd was enthusiastic. The first
period was stopped occasionally to repair
the ice and the puck got stuck under the
boards a number of times. The rink is 40
feet shorter than regulation size.
The Musketeers next game in Lincoln
will be Nov. 12. It will be University of
Nebraska night with lowered admission
prices for students. The opponent will be
from Bloomington,Minn.
Sioux City coach Andre Beaulieu was
not happy with his team's performance,
but he promised, "We will be better next
time."
