Offensive effort . . .
Continued from Page 10
"We did not come here to lose. We lost to a good foot
ball team, a well-coached football team," Stanley said. "I
don t think we lost, I think time just ran out on us. I
don't say that to take anything away from Nebraska."
Stanley said his team enjoys playing Nebraska.
"Football means a lot to them, and football means a
lot to our kids, too," he said. ''We had a couple of mis
takes that hurt us, but again we're not going away from
here a loser, per se. I have a heavy heart and I'm not
proud of it (the loss). We're not going to look back, but
straight ahead."
The OSU coach said there were no surprises from
Nebraska.
Kicking game mistakes
"In the last two weeks we've moved the ball well
and our backs have been running hard. We had two mis
takes in our kicking game today. They returned punts too
far and they blocked a punt."
OSU scored first in the contest when sophomore
running back Ed Smith scored on a 13-yard run after an
80-yard drive in the first quarter.
Todd's 23-yard field goal sliced the lead to 7-3 in the
second quarter, and then quarterback Tom Sorley scored
from one yard out to put the Huskers on top 10-7.
With three minutes remaining in the first half Sorley
hit Berns for a 20-yard touchdown pass to up the score to
16-7. The extra point attempt was bobbled but Todd
came back for another three-pointer later, from 28 yards
out, to give the Huskers a 19-7 halftime lead.
Huskers tied for lead
Freshman Terry Suellentrop ran in from one yard out
to cap another 80-yard drive by the Cowboys in the
third quarter. Todd's third field goal, a 42-yarder, gave
Nebraska a 22-14 lead late in the" third period and
rounded out the scoring for the game.
