friday, October 27, 1978 daily nebraskan page 13 entertainment notes The UNL Opera Theatre's first production of the 1978 79 season, Werther, is today through Sunday at Kimball Hall, 11th and R Streets. The four act opera is taken from the Goethe classic The Sufferings of Young Werther. The basic story line is unaltered and closely follows the original. It is the tale of Werther, a young poet, who falls desperately in love with Charlotee, the beautiful daughter of the town's baliff. Un fortunately for Werther she has promised to marry some one else, crushing Werther and leading him to a tragic end. The UNL Opera Theatre production will be directed by Edward Crafts, with sets designed by Peter Hauser. Two different casts will be performing on alternate evenings. Singing the role of Werther will be tenors John Little and Cary Michaels. The Scarlet and Cream Singers will perform Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Nebraska Union Harvest Room. Their appearance is part of the AUF Charity Spaghetti Feed, sponsored by Beta Theta Pi fraternity. The feed will run from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., tickets are $2 and available through Beta Iheta Pi, and Nebraska Union booths. The Phantom of the Opera, now showing at the Lincoln Community Playhouse, will be getting things into the Halloween spirit. The production features such props as gravestones, pipe organs, life masks, three different types of blood, twelve-foot mask,s, spider webs, dead bodies and various multi-media techniques.
