uses tons of film each year and that is ii
creasing. The creativity of video tape
means that photography is not going to be
limited. The film techniques are improving
and giving us more tools to work with,"
said Tuck.
Read was strong in his feelings of hope
for the future of photography. "1 think
right now there is a rapid growth of
photography as a medium of itself. It has
in the past suffered an inferiority complex
and has followed the habit of the painter."
He went on to say, "I think that there are
those who approach it as a medium of art
for what it can do rather than trying to
make it approximate another form of art."
We've become more sophisticated as to
how to read photographs and I should
hope that we will become even more
sophisticated as how to read them."
The three all have their own tasks that
to them are of the most important con
cern, or a philosophy which is a key to
their work.
Summing up
"Photography is interesting because it is
so easy. It's easy to make a photograph but
think how hard it is to make one that you
can call your own," said Read.
Read then went on to talk about con
sciously putting something in a photo
graph to make it have your signature. "The
viewer needs to know that there is an in
telligence behind the camera."

Tuck said, "I'm not an artist. I prefer
to think of myself as a visual communica
tor because I am trying to communicate
ideas. I want to have control on how
people perceive what I do."
Young finished by saying, "Getting
down to a very basic philosophy that I
have as far as photography in education is
concerned -is to teach a person all you can
teach him about the tool and the mechan
ics and then let him use his creativity.
Thus the question of photography in
the field of art is still a debate and ob
viously ambiguous. As Young said, "Maybe
only time will tell us the truth of what is
art and what is not."
