supernatural power to make objects
move through concentration, a
telekinetic power she will eventually
use against them.
The scene is set when a sympathe
tic gym teacher catches some of
Carrie's tormentors in action and
disciplines them. Their ringleader

vows to get even with Carrie for

'Network,' winner of four Academy

on television on 'The CBS Wednesday
Night Movies,' Oct. 4.
Sidney Lumet directed the funny,
yet terrifying account of the power
struggle in a failing television network,
the United Broadcasting System,
recently taken over by a giant
conglomerate determined to make it
a profitable enterprise.
As part of the revamping, veteran
newscaster Howard Beale (Finch) has
been given the axe by his old friend
and boss Max Schumacher (Holden).
Distraught, Beale goes beserk on his
broadcast and announces his upcom
ing on-the-air suicide.
Schumacher, the news division and
network executives are thrown into an
uproar by Beale's bizarre action but
up-and-coming programming execu
tive Diana Christensen (Miss Dun
away) sees the event as an opportuni
ty to take control of the Howard Beale
Show and make it the vanguard of her
programming strategy.
