"Tenk you veddy
much," he says and walks
off, nonplussed. You get the
impression that he'll be
back . . . every day . . . for
ever. There was once a silent
movie star named Harry
Langdon, a strange little
man who wore an eternal
look of bewilderment. Andy
Kaufman manages that same
appearance, one of total
innocence and vulnerability,
an odd little creature
seemingly unable to cope
with the world but
somehow managing to do
so. Watching Andy Kauf
man work is a little like
watching a child walk across
a busy city intersection.
You feel sure he's going to
get hit by a bus but miracu
lously he makes it across.
If the show's producers
want a sure thing, not an
act of providence, to ensure
its success, they should use
Kaufman more in the episodes.
