Todd, 25, a former employee of Davis, Fenton, Stange, and Darling arclutectural firm in Lincoln, and a graduate from Iowa State University with a degree in science and landscape architecture, said she would like to change all the chracteristics of the univeisity landscape plan. She said there is a lot of cleaning up to be done, and that UNL looks like an "old campus." She said that since the buildings at UNL are vital, the landscape should reflect this, and sue would like to see the landscape modernized. "There is a lot of plant material that is overgrown, oi has reached a point where it won't grow anymore," she explained . University thane She said she would like to develop a theme for the univeisity to aid visitors in finding the campus. There has been some attempt to develop a univer sity flag, she said, but feels the downtown area should be coded by some kind of plants and signs showing where the campus is located . Ray ( 'of fey, UNL business manager of business and finance, said the colleges of business, horticulture and architecture combined to create Todd's position so they could fill each of theif own needs with one person. Cotner 466-2385 tit J He said they couldn't justify the expense of a full-time landscape architect in each college, and they also needed someone in the field to teach classes. Developing and teaching He said Todd was lured because of her experience in the area, and her general duties will include developing landscape improvements around buildings, sidewalks, the parking lots, and to teach 8 few classes in the horti cult ure and arcluteeture departments. Coffey said in the past an arcliitectural firm from Houston has handled all the landscaping, but with the death of the coordinator three years ago, not much has been done to coordinate any kind of a landscape plan . 'They were, and still will be to an extent, used as consultants rather than the actual planners. It will be nice to have someone right here, doing it now," he added. Golden opportunity Todd said she felt tins job is a golden opportunity for her. ul wanted to get back into the university as far as teaclung, and I saw that the job was open, so I applied," she explained. Other changes she said she would like to see involve the parking problem . She said she plans to upgrade the parking surface, help make access to the facilities easier and make car identification clearer. Right now, she said, she is working on a total map of the campus outlining where every tree and shrub is, and what kind it is. She said this will enable her to get the full-scale view of the landscape and be an aid in new planting and renovation.
