UNL has more faces in crowd as enrollment reaches all time high

Enrollment at UNL is at an all-time
high for the first semester of 1978-79, ac
cording to Gerald Bowker, dean of aca
demic services.
Bowker said this fall's enrollment total
of 22,477 is 97 students more than the
previous high of 22,380 in the first semes
ter of 1975-76. Hie total is 221 higher
than last year, when 22,256 students were
enrolled for first semester classes.
Bowker also noted that UNL enrolled
4,026 freshman students this fall, 54
more than a year ago and the highest since
a record 4,087 enrolled in the fall of 1972.
More undergradutes
This year's total undergraduate enroll
ment is 17,222 students, 185 more than a
year ago. Of the university's seven under
graduate colleges, the College of Engineer
ing and Technology registered the largest
increase in enrollment this fall compared to
last year. This fall, 1,820 students are en
rolled in the college compared to 1 ,698 last
year.
Other colleges of the university with in
creases in enrollment this year are agri
culture, up 11 students to a total of 525
this fall; architecture, up 4J to a total of
525, and home economics, up 42 to a
1,147 total.
Teachers decline
Enrollment in Teachers College declined
by 135 students from 2,764 in 1977 to
2,629 this year. College of Arts and
Sciences enrollment declined slightly from
4,783 students last fall to 4,737 this year.
The College of Business Administration
also showed a small decline, but of only
four students. This fall 2,598 students are
enrolled in that college.

and the wasteful use of energy and natural
resources.

ditional professors and improve under
graduate instruction at UNL with the
express purpose to lower class size and
to replace graduate assistants with full
time professors.

3,474 a year ago. The College of Law has
463 students enrolled this fall, compared
with 452 a year ago, while 302 students are
enrolled in Dental College, down two from
last year.
