"They need one program that they can work with," Joglar said. "I think the best thing would be to give the people the right to vote," Bolivar commented. Reyes believes this won't be easy. "It will take a complete change either by revolution or by Somoza's resignation." Esquenazi-Mayo proposed that Venezuela's recent introduction of a motion at United Nations asking for the granting of rights to the population of Nicaragua should be followed by the United States. "The moral power of the U.S. would help tremendous ly," he said. US. involved Up to this point the U.S. has remained allegedly uninvolved, he said. But they have actually had political, diplomatic and business interests in the nation, he added. "The firm commiment of the presidential administra tion is needed," he stated. He predicts that the outcome of the present fighting depends on the National Guard and Somoza. "Unless the National Guard rebels against Somoza, it's going to be a long battle," he said. "If Somoza doesn't resign, the rebellion will continue and the repression will be brutal, from what he has said." The UNL Chapter of the LASA consists of 25 members from Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. At present, there are none from Nicaragua. Bolivar said die group tries to help students from Latin America by easing the transition to die university.
