The health club will be open to both men and women.
Avery said many women believe wrongly that lifting
weights will give them bulky muscles. He said a weight
program has many benefits for women, such as better
muscle tone, loss of fat and more attractive figures.
Osborne said the club will be versatile and large
enough to accommodate both novices and power lifters.
"We want to have body building also for people who
have been pushed out of smaller programs that cater-to
power lifters," he said. 4,We want to create a personal
atmosphere where every person is involved with weight
lifting, to bring people together that have a common
interest."
Osborne said each person will have a weight program
that fits his or her own goals. He said he thinks his club
will have rapport between consultants and members to
make this club "better than any other in Lincoln."
No one around
"An individualized program and having us readily
available for questions-that's one thing no one in this
town really offers," Osborne said. "We're trying to do
everything first class, not just throwing things together
to take up space. We think the club will benefit Lincoln
, and the state."
Boyd Epley, UNL football strength coach, said there
is a need for this type of club in Lincoln, especially
because more and more people are becoming interested
in fitness and want to improve the way they look.
Epley said serving alcohol at the club will be
"a different twist for a health club in this area." He said
the bar may create a more social atmosphere for members.
Lot of good
"I know they have some sound ideas for condition
ing," he continued. "This should be what a lot of Lincoln
ites are looking for."
One-year memberships in the private club will cost
between $145 and $200 and students will get a 15 percent
discount, according to Osborne. Three- and six-month
memberships also will be available.
