Huskersface tough opponent Saturday,
but will beat Bears if offense improves
Fverv Bic Eight school will

as the college football season gets into full swing.
Last week Alabama's Crimson Tide proved worthy of
their No. 1 ranking by trouncing Nebraska 20-3. In the
only other major college game, highly -rated Penn State
slipped by Temple, 10-7.
This Saturday the Huskers face another tough oppo
nent in the California of Berkeley Bears of the Pac-10
Conference .The offense will need a better showing to
defeat California, which returns eight defensive starters
from last year's 74 team.
This week it'll be home sweet home for the Huskers. . .
Nebraska 35 , California 1 7 .
Big Eight games
In other Big Eight games:
Kansas State at Arizona - Arizona stepped out of the
WAC Conference this year into the Pac-10 and they just
might overlook a patsy like K-State. Probation will inspire
the Wildcats . . . Kansas Stat 21, Arizona 17.
Oregon at Colorado - The Buffaloes start off an easy
non -conference schedule with an easy win . . . Colorado
28, Oregon 3.
Iowa State at Rice - With Texas, Oklahoma and LSU
on the schedule the next three weeks, Rice might be look
ing ahead. Too bad this is their easiest game in September.
. . . Iowa State 34, Rice 0.
Texas A & M at Kansas - The Jayhawks could be
tough on the Aggies in Lawrence, but A & M has too
much power . . . Texas A & M 23, Kansas 1 7.

Oklahoma at Stanford - This could be a high scorer.
Oklahoma's offense should be off and running again this
year . . . Oklahoma 47, Stanford 17.
Around the country,
Missouri at Notre Dame - It's tempting to pick the
Tigers for an upset in Warren Powers' coaching debut. In
Columbia it would be tempting, in South Bend, very
tempting. But . . . Notre Dame 28, Missouri 20.
Oklahoma State at Wichita State -The Cowboys have
suffered through a lot of turmoil already and this could
be the beginning of a long season for Jim Stanley's team.
However, the Shockers just don't have enough power .
