UNL law building
to get a new name
The UNL College of Law building will be re-dedicated
Friday in the name of Ross McCollum, California oilman
and benefactor of many institutions of higher learning,
including UNL.
McCollum will be present at the 4:30 p.m. ceremony
at the Law College, at which a dedicatory plaque in his
name will be unveiled. Among those who will speak at
the event will be Warren Urbom, chief judge, U.S. District
Court for the district of Nebraska; Richard Knudsen, past
president of the Nebraska State Bar Association, and Roy
Young, UNL chancellor.
A 1917 graduate of the University of California-Berkeley,
McCollum organized and founded the National Oil
Company in 1933,, serving as company president .and
general man il jus retirement from active manage
ment in 1974.
In addition to providing leadership for the National
Oil Company, McCollum was involved in additional
petroleum and land ventures. He was active in various
West Coast petroleum-related organizations, including
the Conservation Committee of the California
Oil Producers Association and the Western Oil and Gas
Association.
