Prices up
at the Crib
If the price of your ham
burger from the Crib seems
much higher this year, don't
be too upset. At least it's
size hasn't decreased.
"I've tried to stay away
from cutting servings," said
union food service manager
Bob Richeson. It's been
several years since serving
sizes were decreased, he
said.
Food, however, has in
creased drastically in price
over the last year, especial
ly beef, choclate and milk,
Richeson said.
The minimum price of
milk is fixed by the govern
ment, he explained, and
over the past two or three
years, the government has
raised the minimum.
Beef, however, is the
main culprit. Richeson esti
mates the price of ground
beef has risen 24 percent in
the last six months.
As a result of these rising
prices, as well as labor costs
and general inflation, union
food prices have had to be
increased .
And, there are some
foods you won't see around
the union any more, accord
ing to Richeson. Lamb, for
example, "has priced itself
right out of the market,"
he said.
