Film Festival
ends Aug. 16
The Summer Film Festival will feature three short
movies Aug. 9 and two films Aug. 16 in the Union
Lounge.
The Music School, The Hunt and The Dentist will be
shown Aug. 9.
The Music School, part of the American Short Story
Series, portrays the struggles of a contemporary writer,
in a 24 hour period, to find a focus in life. The implications
of religion and technology, contemporary violence and
social change all emerge in vivid images as do the
fragile moments the writer enjoys when he takes his
daughter to music school.
The Hunt was adapted from Richard Connell's short
story "The Most Dangerous Game." Two men on a
hunting trip find their weekend going sour when one of
them discovers that he doesn't enjoy shooting animals.
His companion, an avid huntsman, leaves him in disgust,
wandering off to more than he bargained for. He meets
an older hunter so jaded with killing that the only prize
he yearns to stalk is human prey. The chilling pursuit
that follows is a cliff-hanger until the very end when the
victim escapes, a shaken by wiser man.
The Dentist, a 1932 W.C. Fields classic, begins with a
rather placid breakfast, a run in with the ice-man and
then on to the golf course where Fields makes a
hole-in-one with a ball dropped over his shoulder. Later
at the office you see him treat several patients in the
usual roughshod Fields manner with various interup-tions.
