Non state-aided programs totalled $110 million in the 1978- 79 proposed operating budget and will be increased about eight percent for 1979- 80. Regents Robert Prokop of Papillion and Robert Simmons of Scottsbluff opposed the budget proposals. Prokop said the tuition increase would not generate more funds because the increase would force students to take fewer hours during the year. "You have to look at the total number of hours. If there is a decrease in credit hour production there will be less cash available," Prokop said. Simmons rejected the budget propos als because no provisions were made for university improvement. Energy Workshop at UN-L Thirty Nebraska secondary school teachers are p.irticipatirig in a energy education development program at UN-L until Au. !P. The three-week workshop includes lectures, discussions, field trips and preparation of materials for teaching how the energy crisis affects Nebras kans. The teachers will use the prepared materials on a pilot basis in Nebraska junior and senior high schools next year. If the pilot projects are successful, the curriculum may be expanded statewide in ensuing years. The program is financed by a $19,000 arrant from the U.S. Department of Energy and funds from the Nebraska State Energy Office. Program Director Donald W. Mc Curdy. UN-L professor of secondary education, says the program will use University expertise in engineering and technology as well as the social and physical sciences. "The economic and political factors are as important in the energy field as the technical ones," he said.
