'Homage to Chagall'
at Sheldon Film Theatre
The film, Homage to Chagall: The
Colours of Love, is an exploration of the
life and work of the artist, Marc Chagall.
This documentary is not only a study of
the artist's paintings, stained glass,
tapestries, mosaics, poems and writings,
but also gives a personal side of Chagall in
an on-screen conversation with the
French artist.
Harry Raskey, the Canadian documen
tarian. spent two years making the film,
working in the several museums and
speaking with Chagall in his home in
southern France.
The film deals with Chagall's life as an
early painter and his struggles in Paris,
his return to Russia to marry his
childhood sweetheart, and their return to
France, as well as his later life.
The major part of the film is devoted to
Chagall's work from his earliest paintings
to those of today. The camera also takes
us into his study, where he is shown
painting a huge canvas depicting the four
seasons, which he has recently completed.
The film will be shewing at the Sheldon
Film Theatre July 20-23 at 7 and 9:15 p.m.
Matinees are July 21-23 at 3 p.m.
