Lectureships
begin June 1 5
Brown Bag Lectureships, brief presen
tations by UN-L faculty members on
general interest topics, will be held
again this summer during the first-five
week session.
The presentations, sponsored by the
Union Program Council Talks and Topics
Committee, begin at noon each Thurs
day in the Nebraska Union lounge.
The first lecture, June 15, by Bert
Evans, associate professor of economics
is "Looking at Corporate America
through the Farmer's Eyes."
Jim French of the English department
will lecture June 22 on "Folk Music:
Tradition, Innovation, and the Popular
Structures of History".
Keith Prichard, professor of history
and philosophy of education, Hubert
Schneider, mathematics professor, and
Paul Olsen, director of the Center for
Great Plains Studies will also give Brown
Bag lectures during the session.

Five research and training programs
at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
have been awarded support of nearly
$265,000 from outside sources, accord
ing to UNL Research Administrator F.L.
Schmehl.
The largest single grant, $139,378,
comes from the National Institutes of
Health's Natonal Library of Medicine. It
will support the second year of a study
headed by Dr. Gary L. Jones of the
College of Dentistry. The purpose of the
project is to assess the effectiveness of a
computer assisted instruction system for
dental students.
Other grants received in May include:
$65,134 from the National Institute
of Mental Health to support the clinical
psychology training program at UNL.
This is the program's 28th year of
federal support.
$35,000 from the U.S. Department
of Energy to support the second year of a
study of the charge transfer cross section
determination in heavy ion-heavy ion
collisions by physics professor Joseph
Macek and chemistry professor Gordon
A. Gallup.
$24,504 from the National Institute
of Mental Health to support for a fifth
year the University of Nebraska inter
disciplinary programs assisting children
called UNIPROACH.
$10,000 from the Westinghouse
Foundation to support for a second year
the research of electrical engineering
professors Don J. Nelson and David W.
Olive on modularized instruction for
electrical power engineering students.
