Language floor is offered
UNL undergraduates and incoming
freshmen who are interested in learning a
foreign language have an opportunity to
live on a language floor next fall.
Students who live on the floor, spon
sored by the Modern Languages depart
ment, will be encouraged to speak a foreign
language. Additional activities will help stu
dents learn about the countries where the
language is spoken, said Janet Goebel, grad
uate assistant in the German department.
All new languages will be represented on
second floor Raymond Hall in the Neihardt
Residence Center. The floor houses 78 stu
dents, Goebel said.
All students are eligible to participate
and do not need to be registered for a lan
guage class, Goebel explained. Students
who indicate on their housing contracts a
desire to live on the floor will be paired as
roommates with students who are interest
ed in the same language.
Activities to be sponsored by the differ
ent departments include speakers, games,
films and sor groups, Goebel said.
Students will pay room and board fees.
Activities sponsored for each language will
be sponsored and financed by funds from
respective language departments.
Goebel said she was awarded a $1,600
grant by the University Teaching Council
to coordinate activities for German lan
guage participants.
