Fee power transfer gets regents' OK The NU Board of Regents voted April 22 to transfer student fees control from the Fees Allocation Board to the Committee for Fees Allocation (CFA), an ASUN subcommittee. "The duties and responsibilities will be the same," said ASUN President Ken Marienau. "The effect is that, after the initial year, (CFA) representatives will be elected from the various living units." FAB members are appointed from ASUN and the Council on Student Life or are members of "fee consumer" areas such as Union Board. Under CFA, two representatives from residence halls, two from fraternities and sororities and two living off campus will be elected. Five ASUN senators also will sit on the board. "As tilings now stand, there's no guarantee for students. But under CFA, the board is broken down by fee payer instead of fee user," Marienau said. "We hope that with better representation from the living units, well have better communication and coordi nation between fees and the student government," he added. The fee control switch-over was initiated by last year's senate and was formally proposed last September. After several delays, the regents voted last Saturday to abolish FAB and transfer control to CFA. The new policy goes into effect July 1 , and members will be appointed next fall for the first year. Elections will be delayed until the following spring, Marienau said, be cause "we don't have a couple of thousands dollars to run an election in the fall."
