Four NU engineering students have been named Gen
eral Motors Scholars, an honor that includes tuition,
books and fees for two years-about $1,000 total -and
also summer internships with General Motors automotive
divisions.
UNL students selected include Sandra Karmazin, elec
trical engineering major from Lawrence; Chris Hursky of
Ulysses; Scott Miller of Lincoln; and James Brezden of
Omaha, all mechanical engineering majors.
The annual Elementary Education Honors Convoca
tion held by the UNL Teachers College Tuesday presented
six students with cash awards and 15 others with certifi
cates for outstanding student teaching.
The cash award winners were: Rosemarie Eschliman,
Spalding, who received the $100 Eleanor Anderson
Award; Mary Camacho, Saipan, Marianas Islands, was
awarded the $100 Florertce E. Davis Brainard Award.
Bruce and Marie Messinger, McCook, were awarded the
$200 Anne L. Christensen Award. Brenda Pozehl, Seward,
received the Janet Kay Guy Award, Carol Gloor, Omaha,
was awarded the Russell W. McCreight Award, and
Caroline Hefner, Coleridge, received the Florence Mc
Gonagle Award.
Outstanding teaching certificates were awarded to
Catherine Arnold, Mamaroneck, N.Y.; Mary Jane Beader
man, Lincoln; Geralyn Blesky, Dodge; Kim Cahce, Laurel;
Mary Lee Glen, Auburn; Kathleen Gordon, Omaha; Heidi
Henningson, Lincoln; Polly Hergert, Lincoln; Diane Ro
berts Hermann, Lincoln; Jennifer Holmes, Omaha; Mary
Lynne Schneider, Lincoln; Jackie Stych, Lincoln; De Ann
Troth, Allen; Sheryl Ulrich, Omaha; and Caroline Wenger,
Grand Island.
Timothy W. Burroughs, UNL journalism graduate stu
dent, has been awarded the $5,000 Gilbert M. and Martha

Burroughs, a Lincoln native, has worked for publica
tions in Nebraska, Hawaii and Idaho after graduating from
NUin 1971.
A University Health Center clinical psychologist is the
recipient of the highest distinction given by the American
Board of Professional Psychology.
Dr. Carmen H. Grant was awarded an ABPP diploma in
clinical psychology, one of about six percent of the psy
chologists registered with the American Psychological
Association to hold ABPP diplomas. Dr. Grant is one of
10 diplomates in Nebraska and currently is the only
woman diplomate in this state.
