Saturday night laundromat blues
Every 10 minutes, every weekday after
noon, television commercials depict the
average housewife bustling about a gleam
ing white laundromat amidst shining white
washing machines, flashing a sparkling
white smile.
If she is lucky, a nice man will rip her
husband's dingy shirt in half and make one
side brilliantly white again. Now every
body's happy.
But for many clothes washers, the pic
ture is not so pearly. Shades of gray are
etched into the portrait.
