Congressman calls farm bill
calendar
a rotten election-
hoax'
Washington - The emergency farm aid
package headed for voters in the Senate
and House - and a presidential veto if it
passes - is an flection-year hoax, says a
disgruntled congressman, designed to lay
blame for farmer's troubles on the presi
dent. The bill was approved Tuesday by con
ferees from the House and Senate, despite
administration promises of a veto.

poisoning the United States, particularly in
urban areas, and the methods by which
lead-based paint can be most effectively
removed from . . . surfaces to which child

A lengthy reported obtained by The As

doesn't know the nature and extent of the
problem or how best to solve it. It recom

"It's an election issue, and it's rotten,"
said Rep. Frederick Richmond, D-N.Y.,

The congressmen said conferees ap
proved the bill because "it cleans their
skirts. They can blame it on the presi
dent." "I'm disgusted," he added. "This is a
disservice to the Democratic party and to
the farmers."
