Continued from page 4
After keeping our typesetters and reporting and
editorial staffs up the night before, and having no idea of
when other results would be in, we believed that another
late deadline was unnecessary, stretching our printer's
patience again.
The Daily Nebraskan can sympathize with the hours of
hard work and lack of sleep endured by the Electoral
Commission during elections-we do the same thing to
report election results.
letters
to the editor
The main point of the March 17 editorial was that the
vote counting process needs to be improved to avoid such
problems in the future.
We are not criticizing this year's-or any year's-Elect-oral
Commission.
Rather, we are using them as an example of the in
adequacies with the current system and as an illustration
of the needless trouble the process entails.
There is no need for any ASUN Electoral Commission
or newspaper staff to lose sleep for two nights during
elections.
We encourage the new senate to establish an electoral
system that will be more efficient than the current one.
That's something to lose sleep over.
Female chauvinism
I read with interest the March 17th "Fathom" inter
view with Julie Stanley who is a "radical lesbian separat
ist." The article was entitled "Separatists Prefer Dist
ance". Not only does Ms. Stanely work to put distance be
tween herself and men, she also has put perhaps even
greater distance between herself and a realistic critique of
this society. I grant that macho-sexist exploitation of
women is a serious problem. Such sexism must be resist
ed and ended.
On the other hand, Ms. Stanley does not seem to
realize that women and men work as alienated wage
earners in this society. Women and men are ravaged by
multi-national corporations.
Ms. Stanley's sexist anti-male position is sadly diverse
and misleading. Surely she must realize that most men
struggle to keep up with their bill-collectors just as women
do. Surely Ms. Stanely must realize that most women and
men suffer from being bossed around on the job. Again I
grant that abuse of women is a serious, problem which
must be solved, but for Ms. Stanely to ignore the indis
criminate abuse of women and men by profiteering
capitalists is either intellectually dishonest or ? mark of
surprising ignorance on her part.
Let's cast off this brand of female chauvinism and
move ahead to exploited men and women uniting together
to promote social justice and democracy for all. Certainly
we should not follow Ms. Stanley and establish a domine
ering matriarchy in place of an equally repugnant concept
of patriarchy. We do not need new female bosses taking
the place of male bosses. We need an end to the concept
of bossism and the beginning of a genuine democracy.
