Lutheran Hour talk
refused by network
St. Louis -Lutheran Church officials said the NBC
Radio Network has refused to accept for broadcast a
Lutheran Hour program in which abortion is discussed.

Executions scheduled
Salt Lake City-The Utah State Prison, where con
victed killer Gary Gilmore was executed by a firing squad
14 months ago, is preparing for the simultaneous firing
squad executions next week of two convicted killers.
If the executions are carried out, they will be the first
in the nation since Gilmore died Jan. 17, 1977. His death
was the only execution in the country in nearly 10 years.
Warden Samuel Smith said he is organizing volunteers
for two firing squads for death row inmates William An
drews, 23 of Dallas, Texas and Dale Pierre, 25, or Brook

Oil imports decline
New York -Oil imports by the United States have
begun to drop even though Congress has not yet enacted
legislation designed to curb the nation's appetite for the
expensive imported energy, a petroleum analyst said
Tuesday.
Lawrence J. Goldstein, an economist with the Petro
leum Industry Research Foundation, said there were a
number of reasons for the development, including con
servation, more domestic drilling and a growing flow of oil
from Alaska.
