Wednesday, march 8, 1978 daily nebraskan page 3 Buildings closer to renovation Three of UNL's oldest buildings are one step closer to renovation. The Nebraska Legislature's Appropria tions Committee Monday approved $350,000 of the state's capital construc tion budget to begin planning for moder nizing the Agricultural Engineering build ing on East Campus, the Temple theatre arts building and Architecture Hall on city campus. Architecture Hall, the oldest building on the UNL campus, was completed in 1895. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, according to the Nebraska Historical Society. Temple was completed in 1907 and Agricultural Engineering was completed in 1920. Sen. Steve Fowler of Lincoln, made the motion to allocate the renovation money. Glenn Goodrich of Omaha, a committee member, opposed the appro priation and said, "I'll loan them the dyna mite to blow up Architecture Hall." In other action, the committee approved the working of an intent bill to accompany the NU budget appropria tion bill. The bill says it is the intent of the Legislature that during the next fiscal year, the total number of teaching assis tants does not decrease, the hours spent by the faculty teaching undergraduates does not decrease, and that at least 75 percent of the new faculty's time must be spent teaching undergraduates. Personal reasons prompt resignation Perry Rigby, dean of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, said "personal reasons" prompted him last week to resign his post effective July 1. Rigby will remain on the medical cen ter staff as an academic hematologist, teacher, and researcher. He has held several positions at the medical center since 1964. The average term for deans of medical schools is three years, Rigby said. "I exceeded that by a few months," said Rigby, who assumed the post in 1974. Rigby admitted there are "a lot of pressures" as dean of a medical school, but there were "many considerations" involved in his decision to resign. A search committee will be formed by UNMC Chancellor Neal Vaneslow. Rigby said an acting dean may be appointed before a replacement is found. iSro BBII& C Bud Bud Lite p j cans Q5 ) i TONIGHT!
