GRAND OLE OPRY
On Nov. 28, 1925 George D. Hay. a
young radio announcer, pronounced
himself the 'Solemn Ole Judge,' and
introduced an 80-year-old fiddle
player, which launched the greatest
country music entertainment attrac
tion of all time the Grand Ole Opry.
Since then, America has changed and
the world has changed but the Opry
is still the Opry, the world's longest
running continuous live radio show
and the heart and soul of country
music.
On Saturday, March 4 'Live from
the Grand Ole Opry' will be presented
on PBS. the first live televised cover
age of country music's most vener
able institution.
'Live from the Grand Ole Opry' will
cover 20 to 30 acts. The tradition of
the Opry is that no one knows more
than 48 hours in advance who will
appear. The guests will be taken from
the regular roster of stars which
includes Loretta Lynn. Dolly Parton
(pictured), Lester Flatt, Johnny Cash,
Roy Clark and Roy Acuff , to name just
a few.
